Ormonde Estate is located in the Coastal Region in the Darling District. Although the wine is still very young, Darling is one of the “premium cool climate regions” of South Africa thanks to expressive wines, especially Sauvignon Blanc. Darling is located about 50 kilometers north of Cape Town, benefits from its ideal soil conditions (red-colored calcareous clay soils as well as weathered granite soils (Glenrosa)) and the immediate vicinity of the Atlantic.
Ormonde Estate belongs to the second generation of the Basson family, whose ancestors had already come to Darling with the first Huguenots. Today, Theo Basson leads the vineyard in the conviction that the essential work in the vineyard is to produce wines that reflect fruit and terroir in the bottle. He places particular emphasis on a well-trained team and responsible environmental management. Under his leadership, wines of elegance and accessible complexity are created.
